Kazama poised to take over as Frontale manager: team officials

Former Japan midfielder Yahiro Kazama is set to become Kawasaki Frontale's manager, officials of the struggling club said Thursday.

Kawasaki was looking for a replacement for Naoki Soma, who was fired last week just five games into the league campaign.

The 50-year-old Kazama, who hails from Shizuoka Prefecture, is now coaching the Tsukuba University team.

Kazama played in Germany as a pro between 1984 and 1989 before spending all of his four-year J.League career with Sanfrecce Hiroshima through 1995. He also earned 19 caps for Japan.

In 2011, Soma could only manage 11th place in the table at a team normally accustomed to challenging for the title.

Frontale are currently 11th after two wins against three losses and a draw.
