LONDON — Birmingham said former England striker Trevor Francis is recovering in hospital from a suspected heart attack.
The 57-year-old Francis is known as England's first million-pound soccer player after being bought by Nottingham Forest from Birmingham for that figure in 1979.
Birmingham said on its website Friday that "the former Blues striker and manager is much loved by everybody associated with the club and we'd like to wish Trevor a speedy recovery."
Francis scored 12 goals in 52 games for England, and has managed clubs including Birmingham, Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace. He also spent six years playing in Italy, for Sampdoria and Atalanta, in the 1980s.
