Cullen, Morimoto score in Europe

VENLO, Netherlands — VVV Venlo midfielder Robert Cullen scored his first goal of the season in added time Sunday as the Dutch first division side lost 3-1 to AZ Alkmaar.

Cullen drove home the ball on a missed penalty shot in the 91st minute.

"I didn't think the ball would roll to me like that so perfectly. The first step is important," said Cullen. "I want to keep the momentum going like this. We made too many mistakes as a team," he said.

In other action, Novara striker Takayuki Morimoto netted his second goal of the season with a header in a 3-3 draw at home against former club Catania in Serie A.
