McLaren returns as Forest manager

AP

NOTTINGHAM, England — Nottingham Forest gave Steve McClaren his first job in English soccer on Monday since an ill-fated spell in charge of the national team.

A decade after being handed his first managerial job by Middlesbrough, the 50-year-old McClaren agreed a three-year contract with second-tier side Forest, having rehabilitated his managerial reputation outside of England.

"It is rare for a manager and coach of his undoubted caliber to be available," Forest chief executive Mark Arthur said.

For the 50-year-old McClaren it is a chance to further revive a reputation that hit rock-bottom in 2007 after being fired by England for the team's failure to qualify for the 2008 European Championship.
