NEWCASTLE, England (AP) British police say Newcastle forward Andy Carroll has been charged with assault.
The England under-21 international was due to appear before Tynedale Magistrates Court in Northumberland on Monday.
Northumbria Police say "Andrew Thomas Carroll, 21, previously of Prestwick, Newcastle, has been charged with assault."
Carroll, who recently signed a new five-year contract with Newcastle, has started the season well by scoring four goals in the Premier League side's opening eight matches. He played in the team's 2-2 draw against Wigan on Saturday.
