Struggler Hull fires manager Brown

HULL, England (AP) Manager Phil Brown was fired Monday by Premier League struggler Hull.

Hull, which is second to last in the standings, put Brian Horton and Steve Parkin in temporary charge.

"Retention of Premier League status is paramount and the board believes that a change in managerial direction is the correct option at this time," Hull chairman Adam Pearson said. "The club will keep supporters completely up-to-date in respect of any managerial appointment."

Hull had come close to earning a draw with third-place Arsenal on Saturday, but Nicklas Bendtner scored in injury time to give the Gunners all three points.

Brown led Hull into the top division for the first time in its 104-year history in 2008.
