Fulham adds to Hull's woes; Davies out of ICU

LONDON (AP) American midfielder Clint Dempsey returned from a sprained right shoulder as Fulham beat Hull 2-0 Monday night to climb four places to 12th in the Premier League.

Dempsey was hurt Oct. 4 while playing against West Ham and missed the United States' World Cup qualifiers against Honduras and Costa Rica. He shot wide and headed off target against Hull.

U.S. forward Jozy Altidore entered as a 69th-minute substitute, his first appearance for Hull since Sept. 26.

Bobby Zamora scored the first goal in the 43rd minute on a header after goalkeeper Boaz Myhill's blocked Damien Duff's shot.

Diomansy Kamara added the second goal in the 64th minute when he turned home Zamora's cross after a Fulham breakaway.

Hull midfielder Jimmy Bullard, a former Fulham star, returned to action after being sidelined for nine months following knee surgery.

Davies improving

WASHINGTON (AP) U.S. national team forward Charlie Davies has been moved out of intensive care as he recovers from serious injuries after a car accident.

The U.S. Soccer Federation says Davis is now able to receive visitors. He will have surgery early next week to repair a broken left elbow and may require operations to repair facial fractures.

Davies is listed in fair condition at Washington Hospital Center Medstar.

Davies broke several bones, including two in his right leg, and sustained a lacerated bladder from the accident, which occurred last week when the U.S. team was in Washington for a World Cup qualifier.

Davies is expected to need six to 12 months to recover, essentially ruling him out for the World Cup, which begins in South Africa in June.

Walcott sidelined

LONDON (AP) Arsenal forward Theo Walcott will be out of action for up to a month with the knee injury he picked up against Birmingham on Saturday, having only just returned to the side following a back problem.

The 20-year-old winger, who missed the first two months of the season, was playing only his second game since recovering from his back injury.
