Ono sees red in first start of season

BOCHUM, Germany (Kyodo) Former Japan international midfielder Shinji Ono was sent off in his first start of the season Saturday as VfL Bochum were held to a 1-1 draw at home to champion VfL Wolfsburg in the German first division.

Vahid Hashemian headed Bochum into a 53rd-minute lead but the home side was reduced to 10 men when Ono picked up his second yellow card 10 minutes later.

Edin Dzeko made Wolfsburg's numerical advantage pay when he grabbed a 75th-minute equalizer. Wolfsburg midfielder Makoto Hasebe was substituted midway through the second half.
