The Japanese team took the lead in the 14th minute when Brazilian striker Marquinhos took a pass from Kengo Nakamura and fired a shot from just inside the penalty area that was deflected into the net by China defender Li Weifeng.

South Korean defender Lee Jung Soo, who plays for Kyoto, doubled the lead for the Japanese team in the 60th with a shot from close range, and Kengo Nakamura made it 3-0 in the 72nd. Juninho added a fourth shortly after, before Choi Sung Kuk scored a consolation goal for the Korean team from the penalty spot with seven minutes remaining.

The Korean team lifted the inaugural trophy last year with a 3-1 win at Tokyo National Stadium.
