Messenger, Fujikawa solid for Tigers

KOCHI — Hanshin starter Randy Messenger impressed in three shutout innings and closer Kyuji Fujikawa also got his first taste of action this spring, pitching two scoreless innings in the Tigers' 3-0 win over the Orix Buffaloes on Sunday.

Hanshin won its first game of the preseason.

Messenger allowed two hits, struck out three and walked one, and Fujikawa took over from the fourth, yielding one hit with two strikeouts while issuing one free pass. Masashi Nohara went 2-for-2 with one RBI.

Alfredo Figaro, who is bidding for a spot in Orix's starting rotation, tossed four scoreless frames.
