Fukushima to host 13 All-Star game

One game of the 2013 All-Star Series will be held in Fukushima Prefecture with the aim of providing aid for reconstruction following last year's earthquake and tsunami, Nippon Professional Baseball said Thursday.

The date and venue will be decided later but Fukushima, Iwaki and Koriyama are thought to be the three cities being lined up to stage one of the three games.

The northern coastal prefectures of Miyagi and Iwate were devastated by the March 11 quake and tsunami that triggered a major nuclear crisis at a power plant in Fukushima Prefecture.

NPB held the third game of last year's All-Star series in Sendai and the last game of this year's series on July 23 will be held in Morioka, Iwate Prefecture.

"We hope that by being able to get close to the star players and see top-level play, (people in the prefecture) will be able to reconnect with the brilliance and excitement of baseball," said NPB commissioner Ryozo Kato.
