Tigers' Murton stretches hitting streak to 28 games

YOKOHAMA — Matt Murton hit a tiebreaking RBI single in the fourth inning, lifting the Hanshin Tigers to a 2-1 win over the Yokohama BayStars on Sunday.

Kentaro Sekimoto opened the scoring with an RBI double in the second before Shuichi Murata's leadoff homer tied it in the bottom half of the inning at Yokohama Stadium.

Murton drove in a runner from third with two outs off Hiroshi Kobayashi (0-2), extending his hitting streak to 28 games.

Jason Standridge (9-6) held the damage to one run in six innings, despite walking five batters.

The BayStars will finish in last place for the fourth consecutive year.

Swallows 4, Carp 3

At Tokyo's Jingu Stadium, Norichika Aoki tied the game 3-3 with an RBI single in the eighth inning and Kazuki Fukuchi delivered a walk-off single in the ninth as Yakult rallied to beat Hiroshima.

Lim Chang Yong (4-2) got the win in relief. Takeru Imamura (3-8) took the loss.

Dragons 1, Giants 0 (10)

At Nagoya Dome, pinch hitter Takehiro Donoue hit a sayonara single in the 10th inning, lifting Chunichi a victory over Yomiuri.

The Dragons won their 70th game of the season and maintained a half-game lead over the second-place Yakult Swallows in the Central League standings.

PACIFIC LEAGUE

Hawks 4, Buffaloes 1

At Fukuoka's Yahoo Dome, Tadashi Settsu pitched one-run ball over 7⅓ innings, Yuya Hasegawa had a tiebreaking single in the third and PL champion Fukuoka Softbank beat Orix to win its seventh game in a row.

Seiichi Uchikawa had a game-tying RBI single in the third and Hasegawa made it 2-1.

Yuichi Honda added a two-run bases-loaded single to cushion the lead with two outs in the eighth.

The Hawks' Settsu (14-8) allowed five hits, struck out six and walked none.

Shinya Nakayama (8-8) took the loss for the Buffaloes, who dropped their fourth game in a row.

Eagles 4, Marines 3

At Sendai's Kleenex Stadium, Kensuke Uchimura drove in two runs on a pair of infield hits and Tohoku Rakuten held off Chiba Lotte, which will finish in last place in the PL standings for the first time in 13 years.

Kohei Hasebe (1-0) yielded one run in 5⅔ innings for the win. Shunsuke Watanabe (7-9) was tagged with the loss.

The Marines are the first PL team to finish last the year after winning the Japan Series.

Lions 6, Fighters 2

At Sapporo Dome, Takeya Nakamura hit his Japanese baseball-leading 45th home run and had two RBIs and Jose Fernandez had a two-run double as Seibu rallied to beat Hokkaido Nippon Ham.

Nakamura tied the game 1-1 with a leadoff shot in the fourth inning and added a run-scoring double in a four-run eighth, featuring Fernandez's double.

Takumi Kuriyama had an RBI double for insurance in the ninth.
