Sawamura tosses one-hitter against Dragons

NAGOYA — Yomiuri rookie pitcher Hirokazu Sawamura threw a one-hitter in his first career shutout and Hayato Sakamoto hit a two-run single as the Giants beat the Chunichi Dragons 4-0 on Saturday.

Sawamura (10-11) allowed his only hit in the second inning — a single to Ryosuke Hirata — and walked one while striking out seven.

Shinnosuke Abe opened the scoring with an RBI double in the third and Sakamoto capped a three-run fourth with his single to left off Junki Ito (2-4) at Nagoya Dome.

Carp 7, Swallows 4

At Jingu Stadium, Ryuhei Matsuyama hit a tiebreaking two-run homer off Kenichi Matsuoka (2-2) in the eighth inning and Hiroshima tacked on two insurance runs in the ninth, sending Tokyo Yakult to its fourth loss in five games.

Takahiro Aoki (2-4) got the win in relief for Hiroshima, which saw its winless streak end at 10 games, including two ties.

Kenta Kurihara had a two-run blast in the first before Yakult tied it 3-3 in the sixth, which featured a Norichika Aoki leadoff shot. With CL leader Chunichi's loss, second-place Yakult remained a half game behind in the CL standings.

BayStars 3, Tigers 2

At Yokohama Stadium, Takeshi Hosoyamada delivered a two-run walk-off single in the ninth inning, lifting the BayStars to a win over Hanshin.

PACIFIC LEAGUE

Eagles 8, Marines 0

At Sendai's Kleenex Stadium, Masahiro Tanaka matched a league high with his fifth shutout of the season and won his baseball-leading 18th start as Tohoku Rakuten routed Chiba Lotte.

Tanaka (18-5) walked only one batter, yielded six hits and struck out seven, allowing runners into scoring position in the sixth, seventh and ninth innings before shutting the door.

Luis Garcia went 3-for-4 and Kensuke Uchimura had two RBIs on three hits in Rakuten's 15-hit onslaught. Yoshihisa Naruse (10-12) was roughed up for seven runs in 2⅔ innings.

Hawks 5, Buffaloes 0

At Fukuoka's Yahoo Dome, Toshiya Sugiuchi did not allow a hit in six innings of work as PL champion Softbank routed Orix to extend its winning streak to six and move 40 games above .500 for the first time in six years.

Sugiuchi (8-7) struck out 10 and allowed only one runner on a walk in his return from a one-month layoff with a sore left shoulder. Orix managed just one hit off the Softbank bullpen, an eighth-inning single by Naotaka Takehara.

Hitoshi Tamura homered off Kazuki Kondo (3-7) and drove in three runs. Nobuhiro Matsuda went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Fighters 1, Lions 0

At Sapporo Dome, Bobby Keppel scattered three hits over seven strong innings, Sho Nakata had an RBI single to break a scoreless tie in the sixth and second-place Hokkaido Nippon Ham defeated Seibu.

Yoshio Itoi reached on a one-out single and Eiichi Koyano and Atsunori Inaba drew consecutive walks to load the bases, setting the stage for Nakata's single to left off Takayuki Kishi (7-9).
