Yakult outfielder Guiel set to retire

KYODO

Tokyo Yakult Swallows outfielder Aaron Guiel said Wednesday he will retire at the end of the season.

The 38-year-old former major leaguer is struggling with chronic lower back pain and has played in just 11 games this year.

Guiel hit a career-high 35 home runs in 2007, his first year in Japan. He has batted .234 with 90 homers and 239 RBIs in 441 games over five seasons, all with the Swallows.
