Regarding Roger Pulvers' June 20 Counterpoint article, "Grammar and sums have gone — all that's left is a je ne sais quoi": I was fortunate to find this excellent article and read it through. I'm in my 60s and find that many of my brethren from Myanmar, in their 50s or even 60s, cannot write their mother tongue well nowadays. Our case is not because of computers or modern technology, but because of the neglect of good education by the military regime.

The majority of parents in my homeland are too busy and stressed by the day's end to watch their children's progress. I don't mean to take a lot of lines here moaning about my country's fate. I just want to recommend that every concerned elder read Pulvers' article and try to think about how we can recover our sacred languages from deterioration.
