Straight view of 'metal' subculture
Regarding Evan Jones' complaints in his July 19 letter, "Overboard on a movie review" (about my July 7 review of "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey"): Jones is bothered by what he sees as my insistence on the "director's need to have an anthropological distance for the study," which Jones terms "laughable." Jones should know that it's the metal-fan director of the film himself who trumpets his background in anthropology and his intent to study the metal subculture in exactly that way. It's always good to see a film before you comment on it.
