Labor complaints set record in '11


Labor offices handled a record 256,000 cases involving disputes between workers and their employers in fiscal 2011, up 3.8 percent from the previous year, according to the labor ministry.

Beefs over dismissals accounted for the largest share, at about 58,000 cases, although the figure was down 3.9 percent year on year, followed by roughly 46,000 complaints about bullying and harassment, a 16.6 percent surge from the year before.

Labor offices also processed around 37,000 gripes about deteriorating working conditions, down 1.0 percent, and roughly 27,000 cases of employees being pressured to retire, a 3.6 percent drop.
