Subtitled Japanese films to be screened in Osaka
The Osaka International House Foundation is organizing three screenings of Japanese films with English subtitles on Jan. 21, Feb. 18 and March 18 in Tennoji Ward.
The screenings will be held from 6:30 p.m. to around 8:30 p.m. "Kikujiro" (1999), directed by Takeshi Kitano, will be screened Jan. 21. "Billiken" (1996) by Junji Sakamoto will be shown Feb. 18, and "Megane" (2007) by Naoko Ogigami will be screened March 18.
The films will be shown in cooperation with the Japan Foundation Kyoto Office.
The venue is the hall on the second floor of Osaka International House, which is a 10-minute walk from Tanimachi 9-chome Station on the Tanimachi subway line.
Tickets cost ¥500 per screening and can be purchased at the venue's information center on the first floor. On the day of the screening, tickets will be available at the front reception on the second floor starting at 6 p.m.

Enter opera ticket draw for 'Barber of Seville'
Kansai Electric Power Co. is holding a drawing for tickets to opera performances March 3 and 4 at Festival Hall in Kita Ward, Osaka.
The company is handing out 800 pairs of tickets for each performance of "The Barber of Seville," which will start at 6:30 p.m.
Makoto Suehiro will conduct the two-act opera featuring soprano Naoko Fukunaga and tenor Naoki Takeuchi, with music by the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra. The opera will be in Italian with Japanese subtitles.
Those interested in entering the draw should apply via the company's website at www.kepco.co.jp (in Japanese) by Jan. 25.

Free harp concert to be performed in Otsu
A free harp concert will take place in the main lobby of Biwako Hall in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, on Jan. 17.
The concert will be held between 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. and will feature Takayo and Eri Matsumura performing as harp duo Farfalle. Pieces performed will include "Je te Veux" by French composer Erik Satie.
No admission or reservations are required. Biwako Hall is a 20-minute walk from Otsu Station on the JR Biwako Line.
