Nishinomiya to offer Japanese classes

The Nishinomiya City International Association is seeking participants in a Japanese-language course for foreigners that will take place from Sept. 16 to Nov. 25.

Ten classes will be held every Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture. There will be two levels of courses — basic level for people who have never studied Japanese before, and elementary level for people who can exchange basic greetings in Japanese.

The fee is ¥5,000, and includes the costs for learning materials. Each class is limited to 15 students.

The venue is the association's conference room, which is on the fourth floor of Frente Nishinomiya near Nishinomiya Station on the JR Kobe Line.

Biwako Hall to host Schumann concert

A free vocal concert will be held from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the main lobby of Biwako Hall in Shiga Prefecture on Sept. 9.

Soprano Yasuko Nakajima will perform songs in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of German composer Robert Schumann.

No admission or reservations are required. The hall is a 20-minute walk or seven-minute bus ride from Otsu Station on the JR Biwako Line.

Oktoberfest coming to Ramada Osaka Oct. 1

The annual Oktoberfest dinner party at Ramada Osaka in Kita Ward, Osaka, will be held Oct. 1.

The Oktoberfest 2010 dinner will be held from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and feature beer, wine and nonalcoholic drinks, as well as award-winning German sausages, beef cutlets, "Maultasche" meat-and-vegetable-filled pasta and other foods.

Tickets are ¥4,500, which include free drinks, two dishes of food and a pretzel. Additional food can be purchased from ¥500.
