Osaka slates 15th European film fest
The 15th annual Osaka European Film Festival will take place from Nov. 21 to Dec. 5 in the city of Osaka.
On Nov. 21, there will be special screenings of director David Lean's masterpiece "Lawrence of Arabia" (1962) in a pristine new print, and of a documentary film tracing the career of three-time Academy Award-winning composer Maurice Jarre. The maestro is scheduled to appear on stage for discussions following both screenings. The venue is Recital Hall in Kita Ward.
From Nov. 22 to 24, 10 feature films from European studios will be screened in various languages with Japanese subtitles, also at Recital Hall. The Irish film "Garage," starring comedian Pat Shortt as the main character, will be shown from 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 23 in English.
Planet Studio Plus One, a movie theater in Kita Ward, Osaka, is showing around 15 French movies in connection with the festival until Dec. 5.
Advance tickets for the screenings from Nov. 22 to 24 are ¥1,500 each and can be purchased at ticket agencies Pia and E+, or at Lawson convenience stores.

International House offers Japanese classes
Osaka International House is seeking participants for its Japanese classes to be held every week from January to April.
The Tanoshii Nihongo class, oriented toward beginners, will focus on everyday Japanese conversation. Participants will be divided into four levels; Levels 1 and 4 will meet every Tuesday starting Jan. 6; and Levels 2 and 3 every Wednesday starting Jan. 7. Each level has 12 sessions in total and 10 participants will be accepted.
The fee is ¥5,000, which includes a textbook.
Those wishing to attend must be interviewed for about 10 minutes from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 9 or 10 at Osaka International House. An advance reservation is required by phone. The interview will be in Japanese only. The interviews will be conducted in order of the applicants' arrival that day. An access map can be found at www.ih-osaka.or.jp/

Foundation has job fair for foreign students
Osaka Foundation of International Exchange is holding a job fair for foreign students from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 17.
Japanese companies will provide information for non-Japanese students scheduled to graduate in March 2010. Seminars and consultations will also be held on procedures for changing visa status and how to build a career in a Japanese company.
Participants don't need a prior application to attend and admission is free. The job fair will be held at the assembly hall on the third floor of Osaka International Convention Center, also known as Grand Cube Osaka, near Nakanoshima Station on the Keihan Line, or a 10-minute walk from exit 3 of Higobashi Station on the Yotsubashi subway line.
