Hospital to host forum on international patients
Rinku General Medical Center, a hospital in Izumisano, Osaka, will host The 2nd Rinku Medical Forum on International Patients from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on June 14.
Since the medical center is near Kansai International Airport, it deals with issues facing international patients.
The first section will feature smoking-cessation treatment with a talk by Azoulay Salomon M.D., vice president of global research & development at Pfizer Inc. The second section will deal with health care interpretation. Cynthia E. Roat of National Consultant on Language Access in Health Care will give a talk that will be followed by a discussion session involving several experts in the field. Interpretation in English will be available.
Space is limited to 150 people on a first-come, first-served basis. Those wishing to attend should send their name and address via e-mail. Admission is free.
The venue is the Conference Room on the third floor of Rinku General Medical Center, which is near exit 3 of Rinku Town Station on the Nankai Kuko Line or the JR Kansai Kuko Line.

Craft beer group gears up for annual festival
The Japan Craft Beer Association is organizing the Great Japan Beer Festival 2008 to be held on May 31 and June 1 in Nishi Ward, Osaka.
Visitors can sample more than 120 types of beer at the festival. The beer is dispensed in 50 ml shots, but visitors can enjoy as many types — and shots — as they like.
The festival will run from 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on May 31 and from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on June 1.
The venue is the Kyosera Dome Osaka 9F Sky Hall, which is near Dome-mae Chiyozaki Station on the Nagahori Tsurumi Ryokuchi Line and a seven-minute walk from Taisho Station on the JR Osaka Loop Line.
Advance tickets are available for ¥3,600 at ticket agency Pia or at Lawson convenience stores before May 28. Tickets will be sold at the door for ¥4,100.
The first 600 visitors each day will receive a specially designed beer-sampling glass they can keep.

SIFA to hold forum on NPO, NGO activities
Suita Interpeople Friendship Association will hold Suita International Plaza 2008 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday in Suita, Osaka. The aim of the event is to introduce the activities of SIFA and other NPOs and NGOs based in the Suita area. There will also be booths selling ethnic food and crafts. For children, workshops on origami will be held.
No application or admission fee is required. The venue is Suita-shi Bunka Kaikan, also known as May Theater, which is a one-minute walk northwest of Suita Station on the Hankyu Senri Line.
