South Korea's LG Electronics Inc. said Wednesday it will launch in Japan a smart television capable of Internet access with a simplified remote control in early June.
The LG Smart TV comes in 14 models, with sizes ranging from 22 to 55 inches, ranging in price from around ¥70,000 to ¥420,000, the electronics maker said.
An official in charge of the firm's TV marketing division said LG will place an emphasis on the Japanese market, where customers pursue the "highest level of technology."
"We will thoroughly localize our products and swiftly bring products to Japan with cutting-edge global technology, while utilizing technology and knowhow we foster in the country to produce our global products," he said at a news conference in Tokyo.
The company, which has the second-largest share in the global flat-screen TV market, re-entered the Japanese TV market in 2010 after withdrawing in 2008 due to stagnant sales.
