Execs: Don't miss free-trade boatBy MIZUHO AOKI
Staff writer
Pacific Rim business leaders Wednesday urged leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum to draw a road map for a regionwide free-trade zone. The APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) wrapped up its three-day meeting at the APEC forum in Yokohama with a call to APEC leaders to devise a new vision to further liberalize flows of trade, investment and people. "We want the leaders to find the most effective way to forge the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific, such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement, ASEAN Plus Three and ASEAN Plus Six," Genpachiro Aihara, ABAC chairman and adviser to Mitsui & Co., told reporters. "Responding to this evolution requires a new APEC vision that seeks to further liberalize flows of goods, services, investment, technology and people by addressing not just border barriers but those behind the border as well," he said. |
