Christmas in Osaka for couples

The Hotel Granvia Osaka is offering a special Christmas season accommodation plan for couples called Memorial Stay, through Dec. 25.

This is the first Christmas for the newly renovated Osaka Station City commercial complex, of which the hotel is a part, and the area has been attracting visitors with its shops and illuminations.

Located in the South Gate Building of the commercial complex, the hotel offers a special room with Christmas decorations and views of the city. Special preserved flowers will be offered and messages can be impressed on a petal, among other services.

The plan without breakfast is available from ¥20,000 per person, including tax and a service charge. Reservations are required at least five days in advance. Breakfast can also be added at an additional charge.

Special Christmas-themed Swiss rolls

The Prince Park Tower Tokyo is collaborating with graphic designer Junko Kato (who goes by just her first name) to offer special Christmas versions of her popular confection Deco Roll (decorated Swiss rolls), through Dec. 25.

While her main job is that of a graphic designer, Junko became famous for the original homemade sweets she posts on her blog, which has attracted a large following.

At the hotel's Lobby Lounge, a plate of small Swiss rolls decorated to look like Santa Claus is offered at ¥1,800. Along with Santa, the plate includes a chestnut made to look like a reindeer and a cookie in the shape of a Christmas tree. The dessert is available as a set with tea or coffee for ¥2,800.

Also, at the hotel's Boulangerie Tokyo bakery, a special decorated whole Swiss roll is available for takeout at ¥3,000. For this cake, reservations are required at least three days in advance.

The Prince Park Tower Tokyo is a 2-minute walk from Akabanebashi Station on the Toei Oedo Line and a 3-minute walk from Shibakoen Station on the Toei Mita Line. For further information, call (03) 5400-1111.

New Year's Eve party at Park Hyatt

On Dec. 31, the Park Hyatt Tokyo will hold a special New Year's Eve dinner party to celebrate the coming of 2012, with dramatic views of Tokyo from the hotel's New York Grill on the 52nd floor.

There will be two sittings for the dinner, the first at 5:30-8:30 p.m., priced at ¥21,000, including five courses such as terrine of foie gras and duck meat, corn chowder with shrimp, Japanese beef steak with a puree of celeriac and truffles, and a glass of Roederer Cristal Champagne.

The other sitting is from 9?p.m. to 1 a.m. at ¥35,000, which includes six courses. It also comes with a glass of Champagne as well as a glass of sparkling wine for the countdown.

Also, a New Year's Eve celebration will be held from 9 p.m. to 1?a.m. at the adjacent New York Bar, priced at ¥10,000 per person and including a special canape and a glass of Champagne to ring in the New Year.

Reservations are required. Prices include tax and are subject to a service charge.
