Hokkaido fair at Keio's Tokyo hotels

Through Sept. 30, the Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo is holding a Hokkaido food fair at its restaurants.

Using fresh, seasonal products, such as chicken from Shiretoko, kinki deep-sea red snapper from Abashiri and Yubari melons, a variety of special dishes will be offered. Also, using the same recipe from the Keio Plaza Hotel Sapporo, a special curry will be available.

At the Glass Court buffet restaurant, acqua pazza with squid from Hokkaido, desserts using the area's dairy products as well as fresh fruit, among a wealth of other dishes, will be offered at ¥3,500 for lunch on weekdays and ¥3,900 on weekends and holidays. A dinner buffet is available at ¥5,400 on weekdays and ¥6,400 on weekends and holidays.

At the Chinese restaurant Nan-En, a dinner course featuring special Cantonese dishes using Hokkaido vegetables such as potatoes and corn will be offered at ¥6,800.

The two other Keio Plaza Hotels in Tokyo, in Tama and Hachioji, are both holding this fair as well.

Some restaurants, such as Nan-En, will participate only through Aug. 31.

German cakes return to the Imperial

The Imperial Hotel Tokyo, founded in 1890, is marking the 40th anniversary of Gargantua, its first-floor pastries, sweets and delicatessen takeout gift shop, with a series of nostalgic cakes.

From Sept. 1 to Oct. 31, two cakes, gateau kirsch and bienenstich, offered in the 1970s and '80s, will be available at the shop.

Gateau kirsch (left in photo) is a cake made with cherry liqueur, coated with butter cream and decorated with almond and hazelnut powder. It is available at ¥525.

Bienenstich (right in photo), which literally means "bee sting" in German, is a traditional German honey cake. It is offered at ¥630.

Also, at the hotel's Rendez-Vous Lounge and Bar, the cakes can be eaten as part of a set with coffee or tea for ¥2,079.

Choice Kobe stay plans for women

The ANA Crowne Plaza Kobe is offering a special women-only plan called the Josei Oen Shukuhaku Plan, until Dec. 30.

Based on the themes of beauty, gourmet dining and leisure, the plan offers a variety of options for women so that the plan will satisfy any situation, such as a solo trip, a mother-daughter vacation or joshi-kai women-only groups.

The options for beauty are nail care and coloring, or eyelash extensions. For the gourmet dining options, there are all-you-can-drink beer and cocktails, an afternoon tea set or special room service. The leisure options consist of a drink with a fruit assortment at the hotel's 36th-floor bar, Level 36; a ticket set for the cable car at Kobe Herb Gardens and a one-day pass on the Kobe City Loop; or late checkout at 3 p.m. From the eight options, customers can choose two.

The plan is available from ¥11,500 per person including breakfast, tax and service charge. Also, a special amenity set featuring Shiseido's Elixir cosmetic kits and organic bath and shower gels will be available.
