Visit Nara again, stay for half-price
Nara Prefecture is attracting many visitors this year, as a range of events celebrate the 1,300th anniversary of the founding of Heijo-kyo as Japan's ancient capital.
While the series of celebrations will end soon, the Hotel Nikko Nara is offering a half-price accommodation plan for repeat visitors to Nara.
Limited to those who have visited Nara in 2010, the lowest price for one night after a 50 percent discount is applied is ¥4,875 per person, per night. To get the discount, guests need to present upon check-in something to prove that they have visited Nara in 2010. Such proof can be, for example, entrance ticket stubs for exhibitions, concerts, events or tourist spots in Nara, or photos taken at 1,300th anniversary event venues, such as the Heijo Palace site.
In addition, every month, 10 people who stay at the hotel using this plan will win a postage-stamp sheet featuring Nara's anniversary mascot, Sento-kun.
The offer is limited to five rooms per day, from Dec. 1 through March 31, except Dec. 31 to Jan. 2.

Add some spice with a Westin buffet
The Terrace restaurant at The Westin Tokyo is offering an Epice "spices & herbs" Buffet through Dec. 10.
Offering cuisine from around the world, the buffet spotlights spices and herbs, elevating the supporting ingredients to a starring role.
The sumptuous range of dishes includes gigot d'agneau (leg of lamb), mushroom tagine (Moroccan stew) and Mediterranean vegetables with lamb kebab.
In addition, from Nov. 23 to 28, turkey dishes will be served for the U.S. national holiday Thanksgiving, which falls on Nov. 25 this year.
The lunch buffet is from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at ¥4,500 per adult on weekdays, and from 12 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. to 4 p.m. at ¥5,500 per adult on weekends and holidays. The lunch buffet costs ¥2,400 for children anytime. The dinner buffet is from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at ¥6,800 per adult and ¥3,400 per child on weekdays, and from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at ¥8,000 per adult and ¥4,000 per child on weekends and holidays.

Grand Hyatt Thanksgiving dinner
The Grand Hyatt Tokyo's steakhouse The Oak Door will serve a special dinner course for Thanksgiving, the annual American holiday held on the fourth Thursday in November.
On Nov. 24 and Nov. 25, it features dishes inspired by a traditional Thanksgiving dinner: smoked trout salad with apples, candied pecans, pomegranate seeds and cider vinaigrette; New England lobster chowder; roasted turkey with chestnut stuffing, cranberry relish, sweet potatoes, green beans and giblet gravy; pecan pie with chocolate ice cream or pumpkin pie with pumpkin ice cream; and tea or coffee.
The course is available from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at ¥12,000.

Mandarin five- terroir dinner
Celebrating its fifth anniversary, the Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo, will hold a special gala dinner Dec. 4 at its French cuisine-inspired restaurant Signature, featuring wine from the five great terroirs of Bordeaux.
Carefully selected by Chef Sommelier Fumihiko Kamo, the wines presented at the gala dinner are the 2001 Pavillon Blanc du Cha^teau Margaux, the 1999 Cha^teau L'Evangile, the 1996 Cha^teau La Mission Haut-Brion, the 1989 Cha^teau Latour and the 1994 Cha^teau d'Yquem, each complementing the gourmet menu devised by Michelin-starred Master Chef Olivier Rodriguez.
The dinner costs ¥50,000 per person and seating is available between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.
