Autumn food festival in Yokohama

Five restaurants at the InterContinental Yokohama Grand will jointly hold an autumn food fair from Oct. 1 through Nov. 30. Each restaurant will be offering its own autumn-themed menu and courses throughout the fair.

For example, the buffet restaurant Ocean Terrace will serve several German beers in the tradition of Germany's Oktoberfest, as well as serving special dishes using seasonal delicacies at the buffet. In addition, Oct. 25-31 will be Halloween Week, during which the restaurant will prepare special Halloween-themed dishes. The lunch buffet starts from ¥3,500 and the dinner buffet starts from ¥5,200.

At Chinese restaurant Karyu, luxury autumn delicacies such as matsutake mushrooms and foie gras will be arranged into a new-style Chinese dish, which will be served in lunch (¥5,775) and dinner courses (¥15,015).

La Vela Italian restaurant will feature fresh truffles and other mushrooms; Pier 21 will feature shrimp; and lounge and bar Marine Blue will offer a weekday-only dessert buffet (¥2,079) using seasonal fruits such as grape tarts, pumpkin mont blancs and pear mousse.

Plentiful Hokkaido fare in Tokyo

The Daiichi Hotel Tokyo Seafort's Grand Cafe restaurant will feature the bounty of Hokkaido at its lunch and dinner buffets through Nov. 30.

The buffets will showcase dishes and ingredients from Japan's northernmost island, including seafood such as salmon, sea urchins, scallops and salmon roe, along with Hokkaido beef and Tokachino pork. Zuwaigani (snow crab) is served for a limited time during dinner. Desserts made with Hokkaido's renowned cheeses and milk will also be served. Diners will be able to make their choice from more than 40 different dishes.

On weekdays, the buffet is available only for dinner, at a price of ¥3,800 per adult. On weekends, the lunch buffet is ¥2,980 and the dinner buffet is ¥4,200.

Celebrate German ties in Osaka

The Ramada Hotel Osaka will hold Oktoberfest 2010 in celebration of 150 years of diplomacy between Japan and Germany on Oct. 1.

The all-you-can-drink event will offer German drinks such as Lowenbrau, a traditional Munich-style beer, as well as Steinhager, the most famous of German gins, as well as wines and soft drinks.

Among the authentic German dishes to be served are veal cutlets, maultasche, and German sausages that took gold prize at an international contest last year. Guests will also have the opportunity to sing along to German folk songs performed and led by accordion players and singers.

The event costs ¥4,500, including unlimited drinks and two food items (additional food can be ordered for ¥500 per dish), and will take place from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
