FUKUOKA

Fukuoka fair crafts a showcase to cater to all your hobby needs

Staff writer

Even the busiest executives need a hobby in order to relieve stress. Some find solace at the gym, others in sports, and in others, deep inside, there is an inner Martha Stewart just waiting to come out.

Marine Messe Fukuoka will host numerous booths showcasing more than 50 different genres of crafts including beaded accessories, furniture making, gardening, sewing and knitting. The skillful set of craftspeople will gather at the 16th annual Handcraft Fair in Kyushu and impart their wisdom to the large number of people set to attend. The fair will take place Feb. 18-19 and is aimed at all ages.

As the Handcraft Fair has grown over the years, it has been able to attract some experts to give lectures and advice to those starting out.

On Feb. 18, there will be several fashion shows by various fashion schools from all across Kyushu, as well as suede master Satomi Fujita, who will give a talk on the magic of felt.

If suede and skirts are too feminine for you, there will also be classes on woodworking, seminars about sculpting, and even a lecture on how to self-publish your own writing.

The 16th Handcraft Fair in Kyushu will take place from 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. on Feb. 18-19 at Marine Messe Fukuoka. Admission is ¥700. For more information, visit www.hobby-kyusyu.net/index.html.
