Spa gets into festive mood at aquarium
By TOMOKO OTAKE
Spa resort The Luigans is organizing a Christmas show at an adjacent aquarium on Dec. 18, featuring live performances by a painter and various musicians.
The "Feliz" event, to be held at the Marine World aquarium, will feature Saori Kanda, a body paint / performance artist, whose work is known for its unique mix of Japanese and Arabic influences. A graduate of the prestigious Musashino Art University in Tokyo, Kanda grew up in Baghdad and Dubai, and has collaborated extensively with musicians and fashion designers, including Vivienne Tam. Tam recently released a line of clothing that incorporates Kanda's paintings.
Several musical acts will also be featured in the two-hour event. Those acts include twin-vocal unit iora, who debuted in 2000 and perform rhythmic music that has garnered comparisons to the Gypsy Kings. Also performing is rieco, a Fukuoka-based singer-songwriter.
In addition to these acts, young vocalist Katsuki Sugawara and pianist Hanada Kumiko will bring their jazz stylings to the aquarium so visitors can enjoy some relaxing sounds and the soothing visuals of various swimming fish.
Welcome Champagne, finger food and free drinks will be provided.
Feliz takes place at Marine World in Fukuoka on Dec. 18. Tickets cost ¥7,000 in advance, ¥8,000 at the door. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Shuttle bus services are available from JR Hataka Station. For more information, call 092-603-2435 or visit www.luigans.com.
