'Akiba' gets better

Anime center to preview 3D works

The latest addition to the rapidly developing Akihabara promises to be a haven for anime enthusiasts everywhere.

Housed in the new 22-story Akihabara UDX Building, Tokyo Anime Center, which opened in mid-March, bills itself as "the most up-to-date information source for anime fans" and it follows the center's involvement in Tokyo International Anime Fair 2006 in March.

As well as stocking limited-edition merchandise unavailable elsewhere, and housing an Events Gallery featuring original anime visual displays, also likely to excite anime fans is the 3D Theater which will preview 3D animated works and new TV anime.

The theater is also planning to hold around 200 events a year, including mini-concerts.

As a sign of the increasingly global appeal of anime, information at the Tokyo Anime Center will be provided in English, Mandarin and Korean as well as Japanese.

Tokyo Anime Center, UDX 4F, Akihabara Cross Field, 4-14-1 Soto-Kanda, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, is open every day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free. The center is a short walk from JR Akihabara Station.
