Chernobyl child plays the bandula

A charity concert and lecture will be held, April 23 in Musashino, Tokyo, in aid of the victims of the April 26, 1986, Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

Nataliya Gudziy, who was exposed to Chernobyl radiation at the age of 6, will sing and play the bandula a Ukrainian musical instrument.

Ryuichi Hirokawa, a photojournalist and adviser for the Chernobyl Children's Fund, will present a slide show and lecture.

The event will start at 1:30 p.m. on April 23 at Musashino-shi Shimin Bunka Kaikan (3-9-11 Naka-cho, Musashino. Tel. 0422-54-8822), a 13-minute walk straight along Bunkakaikan Ave. from the North Exit of JR Mitaka Station).

Tickets are 1,500 yen for adults and 500 yen for children and the disabled. Admission is free for elementary school students or younger children.

Proceeds from the concert will be used to buy medications and take care of Chernobyl radiation victims.
