Asian dance pow-wow

The Asian Dance Conference 2005 will be held in Kyoto in February as a forum for Asian dancers and choreographers to exchange ideas about their art through discussions and workshops.

The schedule for the event, organized by the Japanese Centre of International Theatre Institute/UNESCO, is as follows:

Feb. 7, 7:30 p.m., Keynote Speech, Chong-Hwa Lee, "Speaking Body -- Body With the Hidden."

Feb. 8, 2 p.m.-4 p.m., Exchange Workshop (Sun Mee Kim from South Korea, Tsuyoshi Shirai from Japan); 4 p.m.-6 p.m., Discussion by the artists; 7:30 p.m., Demonstration and talk.

Feb. 9, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Exchange Workshop (Ayse Emel Mesci from Turkey, Martinus Miroto from Indonesia); 2 p.m.-4 p.m., Discussion by the artists; 7:30 p.m., Demonstration.

Feb. 10, 10 a.m.-noon, Exchange Workshop (Anita Ratnam from India and Sahar Azimi from Israel); 1 p.m.-3 p.m., Discussion by artists; 3 p.m.-6 p.m., Discussion by critics; 7:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m., Symposium "Individuality in Dance: The Contemporary in Dance."

Feb. 11, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Final Discussion.

1,000 yen per session for dancers and choreographers.

3,500 yen for the public and 2,000 yen for students.
