Work by 24 of Japan's leading calligraphers will be on display at Wako department store in Tokyo's Ginza from Jan. 5 through 15.
The exhibition includes kanji, kana, modern poems, seal engraving, big characters and avant garde pieces from famous names like Santo Ohira, Senshu Taneya, Teizan Toda, Kintei Oi and Yasuko Koyama.
"Gendai no Sho -- Shinshun-ten (Contemporary Calligraphy for the New Year)" will be held 10:30 a.m.-6 p.m. (to 5 p.m. on the last day) Jan. 5 - 15 (closed on Jan. 9 and 10) at Wako Hall on the sixth floor of Wako department store at the Ginza 4chome intersection.
Every day Jan. 6 - 14, one of the featured calligra phers will give a talk about their work starting 3 p.m. (No English translation is provided.)
