An auction of writings, prints, maps, Buddhist sutras and other documents from the Edo Period and before will be held in Tokyo's Jimbocho district Nov. 14 and 15.
To bid, however, members of the public will need to attend pre-sale viewings Nov. 12 and 13 and register their upper bid limit with a professional dealer, who will then attend the auction and bid on their behalf.
No bid below 100,000 yen will be accepted, and as well as paying 5 percent consumption tax on any purchase, buyers will have to pay 10 percent of the price as commission to the dealer who bid for them.
Viewings for "Kotenseki Tenkan Dai Nyusatsu-kai" will be held 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Nov. 12 and 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Nov. 13 at Tokyo Kosho Kaikan, 3-22 Kanda, Ogawa-cho, Chiyoda-ku (near JR Ochanomizu Station and the Jimbocho and Ogawacho subway stations).
