OF NOTE

Ticket giveaway to Nitten exhibition

The nation's largest art show will be held in November, and there is an opportunity for you to be one of 25 Japan Times readers to win a pair of tickets to the event.

The Nitten exhibition, originally titled the Bunten exhibition, was first held in 1907. The 36th edition of the show will take place at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum (Tokyo-to Bijutsukan) and feature some 3,000 works divided into five categories -- Japanese-style paintings, Western-style paintings, sculpture, arts and crafts and calligraphy.

The artists will include about 570 Nitten members who have won in past Nitten exhibitions, and new artists whose works have been screened for approval.

The 36th Nitten exhibition will run 9 a.m.-5 p.m. from Nov. 2 to 24 (from noon on the first day, and until 3 p.m. the last day). It will be closed on Nov. 15.

Those interested in the ticket giveaway must send a postcard with name, address and telephone number to: Nitten-kakari, Gakugei-bu, The Japan Times, 4-5-4 Shibaura, Minato-ku, Tokyo 108-8071.

The deadline is Oct. 4.

Tokyo-to Bijutsukan is a seven-minute walk from the Koen Exit of JR Ueno Station. Regular tickets are 1,000 yen for adults, 600 yen for university and high-school students and 500 yen for middle and primary school students.
