Pacifica Quartet to play free concert

A popular string quartet from the United States will play a free concert on Sept. 28 at Meiji Gakuin University featuring all the string quartets written by veteran American composer Elliott Carter.

The Pacifica Quartet, formed in 1994, has won three major contests in the U.S. The group will perform Carter's five quartet pieces, which were composed between 1950 and 1995, at 6 p.m. at Art Hall, on the university's Shirogane campus. The concert will be preceded by a talk given by Meiji Gakuin musicology professor Ryuichi Higuchi at 5:20 p.m.

Anyone interested must send a post office-issued ofuku hagaki (return postcard) to Carter Zenkyoku Ensokai-kakari, Triton Arts Network, Triton Square Office Tower X 5F, 1-8-10 Harumi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo 104-6005.

Senders must write their name (with accompanying furigana), address (including zip code), telephone number and e-mail address on the back of the outgoing part, and their name and address on the front of the return part.

The deadline is Sept. 18.

The Shirogane campus of Meiji Gakuin University is a seven-minute walk from Shirogane Takanawa Station on the Mita and Nanboku subway lines.
