Concert, lecture highlight Haydn

A lecture and musical performance to be held Sept. 3 in Tokyo will focus on Haydn, with two members from an orchestra equipped with period instruments performing works by the Austrian composer.

Hidemi Suzuki, cellist and musical director of Orchestra Libera Classica, will speak about Haydn and the differences between his music and Baroque music at the 17th installment of the NEC Early Music Lecture series. No translation will be available.

The members from the orchestra, which specializes in classical music around the time of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, will demonstrate instruments from the period.

The event will start at 7 p.m. on Sept. 3 at Hamarikyu Asahi Hall, which is adjacent to Exit A2 of Tsukiji Shijo Station on the Oedo subway line.
