JFF to screen six Arab movies

Six Arab movies subtitled in Japanese will be screened Sept. 2-4 at the Japan Foundation Forum in Tokyo's Akasaka district.

Preceding the screenings will be an Aug. 31 showing of the Israeli movie "Desperado Square" (Benny Torati, 1999, 92 min.), followed by a lecture by Inuhiko Yomota, a professor at Meiji Gakuin Universtiy, on "Zionism and movies."

The Arab film schedule is: Sept. 2: 4:30 p.m., "Awdat El-Iban El-Dhal" (Egypt, Youssef Chahine, 1976, 125 min.); 7 p.m. "Iskandariah..Leh?" (Youssef Chahine, 1979, 132 min.)

Sept. 3: 4:30 p.m., "Canticle of the Stones" (Belgium, Michel Khleifi, 1990, 105 min.); 7 p.m., "Divine Intervention" (France-Palestine, Elia Suleiman, 2002, 94 min.)

Sept. 4: 2 p.m., "El-Akhar" (Youssef Chahine, 1999, 101 min.); 3:45 p.m., introductory lecture by Akira Tochigi and Kenji Ishizaka on Arab movies; 5 p.m., "Noce en Galilee" (Belgium-France, Michel Khleifi, 1987, 110 min.)

All tickets to be sold at the door, 800 yen for one screening and 2,100 yen for three screenings.

The Japan Foundation Forum is a one-minute walk from Exit 12 of Sanno Tameike subway station.
