Museums host jazz gigs in Hakone

Eighty visitors to the POLA Museum of Art in Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture, will be invited to a jazz concert Aug. 21 featuring vocalist Miyuki Hatakeyama.

Hatakeyama, accompanied by guitar, will sing in a cafe in the basement of the museum from 5 p.m.

Those interested in attending should send a postcard to: POLA Bijutsukan, Hakone Jazz Onsen-kakari, 1285 Sengokubara Kozukayama, Hakone-machi, Ashigara Shimo-gun, Kanagawa-Ken, 250-0631.

Applicants must write name, address, zip code and telephone number, and indicate whether one or two people will attend. The deadline is Aug. 2.

Those who receive tickets must pay for admission to the museum (1,800 yen, 1,300 yen or 700 yen), which is now showing "The World of Children -- Fujita, Picasso and Other Artists From the Collection" through Jan. 10.

The nearby Hakone Open-Air Museum (Hakone Chokoku no Mori) is offering two free jazz concerts:

* Pianist Yoshiko Kishino's trio at 5 p.m. on Aug. 14.

* Hiromitsu Agatsuma on tsugaru shamisen accompanied by guitar at 5 p.m. on Aug. 15.

The museum is showing "Henry Moore -- The Expanse of Nature. The Nature of Man" through Sept. 5. Admission is 1,600 yen, 1,100 yen or 800 yen.

To get to the POLA Museum, take a Shisetu Meguri bus bound for Shissei Kaen and get off at POLA Bijutsukan Mae from Gora Station on the Hakone Tozan Tetsudo Railway Line from Odawara or Hakone Yumoto stations.

To get to the Hakone Open-Air Museum, get off at Chokoku no Mori Station on the Hakone Tozan Tetsudo.
