'Don Giovanni' for modern times

Tokyo Nikikai Opera Theatre will be staging Mozart's "Don Giovanni," in Italian at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan in Ueno, July 22-25, directed by Amon Miyamoto.

Miyamoto has chosen to set this production of "Don Giovanni" in contemporary society; the production is said to be influenced by his experience of being in New York at the time of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The schedule is as follows:

July 22-23 at 6:30 p.m.; July 24, 3 p.m., and July 25, 2 p.m.

The July 22 and 24 shows will star Hiroshi Kuroda as Don Giovanni, Noriko Sasaki as Donna Elvira and Kyoko Yoshida as Donna Anna.

The July 23 and 25 shows will star Masumitsu Miyamoto, Mami Koshigoe and Noriko Masuda, as Giovanni, Elvira and Anna, respectively.
