Iranian filmfest features nine works

The Iranian Film Festival 2004 to be held June 4-13 at the Japan Foundation Forum in Tokyo this year features 10 popular and controversial films, all subtitled in Japanese, with some also in English.

The festival schedule is:

* "The Boycott" (Mohsen Makhmalbaf, 1986, 110 min., English) 1 p.m. on June 5 and 7; 4 p.m. on June 8; 7 p.m. on June 11.

* "Captain Khorshid (Nasser Taghvai, 1987, 117 min., English) 7 p.m. June 7; 4 p.m. June 9; 10:30 a.m. June 13.

* "Sorb" (Masud Kimiai, 1988, 130 min., English) 1 p.m. June 13; 7 p.m. June 5; 4 p.m. June 7.

* "Smell of Camphor, Fragrance of Jasmin" (Bahman Farmanara, 2000, 93 min.) 7 p.m June 4; 1 p.m. June 10; 4 p.m. June 13.

* "Under the Skin of the City" (Rakhshan Bani-Etemad, 2001, 92 min., English) 1 p.m. June 6 and 9; 7 p.m. June 12.

* "Bemani" (Dariush Mehrjui, 2002, 97 min., English) 7 p.m. June 6; 4 p.m. June 10; 10:30 a.m. June 12.

* "Journey to Chazzabeh" (Rasul Molagholipoor, 1995, 100 min.) 4 p.m. June 6; 1 p.m. June 11; 7 p.m. June 8.

* "Through Sunglasses" (Mohammad Hossein Latifi, 2000, 98 min., English) 10:30 a.m. June 6; 7 p.m. June 9; 1 p.m. June 12.

* "Low Heights" (Ebrahim Hatamikia, 2002, 115 min.) 7 p.m. June 10; 4 p.m. June 11.

* "The Wind Carpet" (Kamal Tabrizi, 2002, 109 min.) 10:30 a.m. June 5.

The venue is the Japan Foundation Forum (Akasaka Twin Tower, 2-17-22 Akasaka, Minato-ku, near Exit 12 of Sanno Tameike Station on the Ginza subway line.)

Advance tickets (800 yen per film) can be ordered from 0570-02-9999 (P-code 550-453). Tickets at the door are 1,000 yen.

There will also be two symposiums on the past, present and future of Iranian films (4 p.m. June 5) and women in Iranian films (4 p.m. June 12). The symposiums are free.
