Sanuki tour explores Chiba history

A tour will be organized May 20 to appreciate the history and aesthetic traditions of the town of Sanuki on the Boso Peninsula in Chiba Prefecture.

Up to 25 people will be accepted. The application deadline is May 14.

Sanuki is a small castle town situated about an hour by limited express from Tokyo Station on the Uchibo Line.

Tour participants will arrive at JR Sanuki Station at 10:30 a.m. on May 20. The tour will be held even if it rains.

The tour will explore the town and visit a section where samurai lived, the former site of the Sanuki Kame castle, and Miya Shoyuten, a natural soy sauce maker that started business in 1834.

The soy sauce business is now run by the sixth-generation owner. The group will visit the shop, storage and garden.

The Sanuki tour will cost 3,500 yen (train fare, lunch not included). To reserve, call Mr. Sokichi Sugimura of the Public Art Forum at (03) 3407-9132 or fax (03) 3407-5247.

Contact phone numbers for use on the day of the tour are 080-1074-8607 or 090-1884-5713.
