Spotlight on Cuban cinema

To mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Cuba, the National Film Center will hold a Cuban film festival titled Viaje al Cine Cubano (Voyage to Cuban Cinema) April 6-25.

Among the movies to be shown will be:

"Lucia" (1968, 160 min.) (April 6, 7 p.m.; April 15, 3 p.m. and April 24, 4 p.m.): Depicts three Lucias in three different periods: 1895, 1932 and the 1960s.

"La Ultima Cena" (1977, 115 min.) (April 7, 3 p.m. and April 17, 1 p.m.): A look at a slave rebellion on a sugar-cane plantation.

"En Tres y Dos" (1985, 96 min.) (April 8, 7 p.m.; April 17, 4 p.m. and April 20, 3 p.m.): A story about the last game of a star baseball player.

"Cartas del Parque" (1988, 90min.) (April 10, 1 p.m. and April 16, 7 p.m.) A love story based on a story by novelist Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

The first movie jointly produced by Cuba and Japan -- "Mas Cerca de Ti" (1969, 100 min.) -- will be shown from 3 p.m. on April 14, 7 p.m. on April 20 and 4 p.m. on April 25. It is a love story about a Japanese fisherman who visits Cuba and a Cuban woman revolutionary soldier.

Entrance fee is 500 yen for adults, 300 yen and 100 yen for students.

The National Film Center is a two-minute walk from Exit 1 of Kyobashi Station of the Ginza subway line.
