Festival to fete Shibaura face-lift

The town associations in Tokyo's Shibaura area will hold the first Shibaura Canal Festival on March 24 and 25 to mark the completion of a plaza in front of the east exit of JR Tamachi Station.

The events will take place from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m each day at three locations: the area from the plaza to Shin Shiba Bridge, Shibaura Canal near Tokyo Port Bowl, and Kaigan Futo Park by Shibaura Futo Station on the Yurikamome Line.

At night, the canal will be illuminated and decorated with balloon arches for 600 meters, while traditional Japanese party boats will act as floating bars, offering drinks and cruises from the canal to Odaiba, offering gorgeous views of the Rainbow Bridge.

There will also be performances of shishimai (lion dances), wadaiko (traditional drums) and jazz.
