Rakutendan goes 'Up the Ladder'
The Rakutendan Theatre Company will stage a Japanese edition of the Australian play "Up the Ladder" Nov. 12-16 in Tokyo as part of Australian art event titled "Ancient Future."
The play, written by Roger Bennet, is about an Aboriginal man's journey from the rough-and-tumble world of boxing tents in the 1940s and '50s to his career as a professional boxer.
Kirk Page, an indigenous Australian performer, will join the Japanese company to perform a spirit dance.
The play will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 12-14, and 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Nov. 15-16 at Repertoire Theatre Kaze (1-2-4 Higashi Nanako, an eight-minute walk from the East Exit of JR Higashi Nakano Station.
