Enjoy a week of Venezuelan vibe

Venezuela's Cultural Week -- Artists in Japan 2003 will be held Oct. 3-12 in Tokyo, centering on music, poetry and gastronomy.

Anyone interested in the free music and poetry events should send a post office-issued ofuku hagaki (return postcard) to the Venezuelan Embassy, 4-12-24-703 Nishi Azabu, Minato-ku, Tokyo 106-0031. The sender's name and address, desired performance dates and number of people wishing to attend must also be stated. Invitations will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis.

The musicians will include traditional vocalist Cecilia Todd, flutist Huascar Barradas, cuatro player and guitarist Jorge Polanco, and double bassist Elvis Martinez, who will perform at Takanawa Kumin Center Hall, 1-16-25 Takanawa, Minato-ku, near Exit 1 of the Shirogane Takanawa subway station, at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 3 and 4, and 4 p.m. on Oct. 5.

Readings of Venezuelan and Japanese poetry directed by Costa Palamides will be held at 6 p.m. on Oct. 6 at Tessenkai Nohgaku Kenshujo, 4-21-29 Minami Aoyama, Minato-ku, near Exit A4 of Omotesando subway station.

Dishes from various regions of the country will be cooked up by chef Francisco Abenante, who will be conducting a lunch buffet Oct. 3-10 and a brunch buffet on Oct. 11 and 12, at the Marble Lounge in the Tokyo Hilton, 6-6-2 Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku.
