Cows to lead downtown art attack

Sixty-four fiberglass cows painted or reshaped by various artists will appear throughout downtown Tokyo from Sept. 5 to Oct. 5 as part of a public art event called CowParade Tokyo in Marunouchi 2003.

The event was first held in Zurich in 1998, and traveled to Chicago in 1999, New York in 2000 and London in 2002. Similar events were held this summer in Atlanta, Brussels and Dublin.

The 64 cows, intricately decorated by such artists as Katsuhiko Hibino, Hiroshi Senju, Yoko Yamamoto and Katsumi Asaba, will appear in the Marunouchi, Otemachi and Yurakucho districts looking up, down or lying on the ground.

Made in a Polish factory under license from CowParade Holdings Corp. in Hartford, Conn., the cows, both standing and lying down, are life-size.
