Ichikawa's movies in retrospectThe National Film Center in Tokyo presents a Kon Ichikawa Retrospective series, beginning July 22, featuring some 65 movies made by the 87-year-old director. The first part of the series will be shown July 22-Aug. 31, and the second part Sept. 2-Oct. 5. The first part will feature: "Matatabi (The Wanderers)" (1974) from 3 p.m. on July 22; "Sanbyaku Rokujugo-ya (365 Nights)" (1949) from 7 p.m. on July 22 and from 3 p.m. Aug. 13; "Bungawan Solo (River Solo Flows)" (1951) from 3 p.m. on July 25 and 7 p.m. on Aug. 14; "Rakki-san (Mr. Lucky)" (1952) from 1 p.m. on July 26 and 7 p.m. on Aug. 15; "Ashi ni Sawatta Onna (Woman Who Touched the Legs)" (1952) from 4 p.m. on July 26 and 7 p.m. on Aug. 19; "Pu-san (Mr. Pu)" (1953) from 3 p.m. on July 29 and 1 p.m. on Aug. 16; "Aijin (The Lovers)" (1953) from 3 p.m. on July 30 and 4 p.m. on Aug. 16; "Shokei no Heya (Punishment Room)" (1956) from 1 p.m. on Aug. 2 and 3 p.m. on Aug. 21. It will also include "Kokoro (The Heart)" (1955) from 3 p.m. on Aug. 1 and 7 p.m. on Aug. 21; "Biruma no Tategoto (The Burmese Harp)" (1956) from 7 p.m. Aug. 1 and 1 p.m. on Aug. 23; "Man-in Densha (Crammed Streetcar)" (1957) from 4 p.m. Aug. 3 and 3 p.m. on Aug. 26; "Nobi (Fires on the Plain)" (1959) from 3 p.m. on Aug. 7 and 4 p.m. on Aug. 24 and "Hakai (The Outcast)" (1962) from 1 p.m. on Aug. 9 and 7 p.m. on Aug. 28, and many other movies. The second part will feature "Shinsetu Kachikachi-yama," an animated film Kon made in 1936, and "Musume Dojo-ji," a 1945 film banned during the U.S. Occupation, and several other movies. The film center is a few minutes' walk from Kyobashi Station on the Ginza subway line. The entrance fee is 500 yen for each screening. |
