McDonald's offers kabuki for kids

McDonald's Co. (Japan), Ltd. will invite a total of 1,500 parents and children to attend a free kabuki performance on July 24 at the National Theater in Tokyo.

"Sanju-san-gen-do Munagi-no Yurai" is the story of a wil low-tree spirit who takes the form of a woman (played by Nakamura Kaishun) and marries the man (Nakamura Shinjiro) who saved it.

Interested readers should send an ofuku hagaki by July 4 to McDonald Oyako-de Tanoshimu Kabuki Kyoshitsu, The Japan Times-gakari, Gyomu-ka, Kokuritsu Gekijo, Hayabusa-cho 4-1, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, 102-8656.

On the back of the card, the sender (who must be an adult) must write his or her name, age, address and telephone number, as well as the names and ages of all the people who would like to attend (up to four, including the sender, at least one of which should be a child). Winners will be notified around July 10.

Those who want to entrust their infants to a nursery during the kabuki performance should call Mothers at (03) 3294-1544 before July 17. Mothers charges 1,000 yen for 2-year-olds and up and 2,000 yen for children under 2.

The program will start at 2:30 p.m. with a short lecture on how to enjoy kabuki, followed by the performance itself, which ends around 4:45 p.m.

The theater is a 5-minute walk from the Hanzomon subway station and 10 minutes from Nagatacho Station on the Yurakucho, Hanzomon and Nanboku subway lines. For more information, call (03) 3265-7411.
