Thursday, July 21, 2011 IN THE RECORD BAG
Broken HazeBy MARK JARNES
Special to The Japan Times
DJ Broken Haze is making big strides with his latest release, "Broken Haze vs. B. Bravo," as well as monthly podcasts cohosted by DJ XLII. The Japan Times takes a look inside his record bag.
Golden Oldie: Beastie Boys — "Pass The Mic" (Capitol Records). Dope beats with an old-school flow. A true classic, we Japanese love the Beasties. New Classic: Rustie — "Hyperthrust" (Warp Records). This was the best tune from Warp in 2010. Hip-hop-laced beats and some heavenly lazer-synth arp makes you feel like you're in a video-game world. Floor-Filler: Virus Syndicate — "Your Life (Funkystepz Remix)" [Safe & Sound]. This is a huge remix by Funkystepz, one of the "funky" scene's best producers. Must-Listen: The Glitch Mob — "We Can Make the World Stop" (Glass Air Records). One of the best digital-music groups — maybe I should say bands — out there. Their synth-laden glitch style always kills the crowd! Broken Haze and XLII's monthly podcasts are at raids.jp/?cat=70. Also, check out his tunes at www.brokenhaze.net and www.soundcloud.com/brokenhaze.
